Let’s talk about snacks!

You either love them or you hate them. And believe me when I say that I’ve only ever met one person who does not enjoy eating snacks, and he is my late grandfather. He would always say, “Why eat snacks when you can have full meals? Your body needs nourishment.

Of course, back in those days, we did not have the same options we do now. Back in those days, when you mention snacks, the only picture that comes to mind are food items that fall under two food groups–salty junk and sugary junk–and they are both always sold by neighborhood aunties who seem to have given up thinking of new things to sell.

Quick trivia–did you know that since Covid-19, many Americans have increased their consumption of snacks? According to the 2020 Food and Health Survey, an annual study commissioned by the International Food Information Council, about 30% of Americans say that they have been snacking far more frequently these days. And among those, the biggest chunk are younger adults. Specifically, 41% of Americans under 35 report snacking more than normal, compared with 26% of those age 50 and older. Parents appear to also be eating snacks to relieve stress, as 41% of adults with children under 18 are snacking more, compared with 29% of adults without children.

With many turning to quick bites to relieve themselves of stress, it’s important to know that there are options out there that you can totally enjoy, are good for you, and can be delivered right to your doorstep.

Let’s take a look at some of them.
